OPTIMIZE YOUR START-UP

Why does it Take so long to boot up now? If your computer is a lot slower starting now than it was when it was new you probably have to many programs loading with windows. When you install software, often it will assume you want to use it all the time and make the decision to start with windows for you (all the icons in the bottom right of your screen). To change this and choose for yourself which programs will load at start-up.

  •  Click on START, then RUN
  • In the box type   msconfig  click ok.

  • Next click on the startup tab and carefully choose programs that are not required to load at startup and uncheck those boxes. If you are unsure what the program does do a search for it in Google. Things like QuickTime and Winamp are not required to load at startup

  • Once you have selected the the applications you don't need at startup, it will tell you "you must restart your computer for the changes to take affect."

  • After the restart you will get a pop up message saying you have used the system configuration utility to change the way windows starts, just select the box that says do not show me this again and hit ok.
